Alghero is surrounded by beautiful beaches you cannot go far without stumbling across a cove or stretch of white sand with clear blue sea twinkling in the sunlight. Hereafter we have included our ultimate to guide to Alghero beaches, how to get there and how to make the most out of all that Alghero’s stunning beaches have to offer:
The miles of never ending sandy beaches are San Giovanni, Maria Pia, Punta Negra, Le Bombarde and Lazzaretto.
The Lido San Giovanni is the first beach you come across after the port, it offers both a free and private beach. This is perhaps the most lively of the beach with open bars and a few restaurants, music and always beach volley matches, windsurfing, beach boarding and pedalo hire.
Maria Pia is further along where the wooded area begins, many locals and visiters alike choose this area in the summer to shade from the blazing sun and enjoy a picnic lunch. The sand is pure white here and runs through your hands like flour. Its is a large beach and there space for everyone.
Punta Negra is a very small beach a few steps away from the small town of Fertilia it is very popular with the locals.
Le Bombarde can be easily reached by car and bus from the centre of Alghero. Here you also have the choice of the free beach (advisable to go early to find space) and lidos. It is the place to be seen and people watch, from June to the end of August it is a hive of activity. There are 2 beach bars serving refreshments, sandwiches, salads and fresh fruit. This beach is ideal also for snorkelling, you can also hire pedalos.
Lazzaretto is just around the corner from Le Bombarde it is a lot smaller that Bombarde but offers the exact same amenities.
For those of you travelling with a hire there is pay parking in the summer for Maria Pia, Le Bombarde and Lazzaretto beaches.
