Alghero Town

The town of Alghero is located in the north west of Sardinia and symbolizes the very essence of the Mediterranean.
You will be immediately drawn into the laid back relaxing pace of life, moving from café to café people watching or simply soaking up the atmosphere. The siesta is the most important time of the day when families come together for lunch, especially so during the summer months to stay in during the hottest hours of the day (12 to 15).

History and adventure all enclosed within this fortified port, much of Alghero’s old town was very badly damaged during the second world war, although its roots go much further back to as early as pre-historic times.

Remains of Alghero’s colourful history can still be seen today in the architecture of its buildings as well as the Catalan dialect that is spoken. Catalan culture and influence is still present and the culinary speciality of ‘Aragosta alla Catalana’ widely served in the local restaurants (local lobster served tepid with red onions, fresh tomatoes and rocket salad).

Much of the old town is cobbled and pedestrionized making it ideal for evening strolls, be sure not to miss the sunset from the best spot in town along the Bastion wall, also perfect for an aperitif and dining alfresco among the many restaurants.
